Elementary hypergeometric functions, Heun functions, and moments of MKZ operators
2019
We consider some hypergeometric functions and prove that they are elementary functions. Consequently, the second order moments of Meyer-Konig and Zeller type operators are elementary functions. The higher order moments of these operators are expressed in terms of elementary functions and polylogarithms. Other applications are concerned with the expansion of certain Heun functions in series or finite sums of elementary hypergeometric functions.
Stochastic dynamics and mean field approach in a system of three interacting species
2008
The spatio-temporal dynamics of three interacting species, two preys and one predator, in the presence of two different kinds of noise sources is studied. To describe the spatial distributions of the species we use a model based on Lotka-Volterra equations. A correlated dichotomous noise acts on \beta, the interaction parameter between the two preys, and a multiplicative white noise affects directly the dynamics of each one of the three species. We study the time behaviour of the three species in single site for different values of the multiplicative noise intensity, finding noise-induced oscillations of the three species densities with an anticorrelated behaviour of the two preys. Afterwar…

Combined dynamic response of primary and multiply connected cascaded secondary subsystems
1991
A method is proposed for the deterministic and stochastic non-stationary analysis of linear composite systems with cascaded secondary subsystems subjected to a seismic input. This method makes it possible to evaluate, by means of a unitary formulation, the deterministic and non-stationary stochastic response of both classically and non-classically damped subsystems and of secondary subsystems multiply supported on the primary one, as well as the ground. The proposed procedure is very efficient from a computational point of view, because of the Kronecker algebra systematically employed. Indeed, by using this algebra, it is possible to obtain in a very compact and elegant form the eigenproper…
